What are keyless remote smart entry systems?
Passive remote entry on a vehicle, sometimes named keyless entry systems, has many important benefits. The biggest bonus of a keyless entry system is the convenience it provides. Loaded down with groceries? You can still get the hatch open with a wave of your foot, depending on the version of keyless entry installed on your car. Not to mention, no more fighting to get the key into the lock, just press the button and go. Another big advantage of keyless entry is the added security it offers. The key has electronics inside that must be validated by your vehicle before it will open any doors or start the engine. There are some keyless entry systems that can lock your doors automatically when you walk away from the car. Lastly, there is the fun perk of keyless entry, remote ignition. Pressing a button and seeing your car start will make you feel like a wizard.
All Passive Entry systems are keyless, but not all Keyless Systems are passive. Confusing isn’t it? This is how it works. Passive Keyless entry is when you can keep your keys in your pocket and then you touch an area on the car to unlock and lock the doors, or shake your foot underneath the car to open the trunk area. Even though they do similar things, Remote Start and Keyless Ignition are not the same things. Keyless Ignition lets drivers start and drive their car without using a standard key. Just push a button, and go! Remote Ignition lets you start your vehicle through a key fob or mobile application. Remote Start is beneficial in extreme temperatures such as very hot or very cold days by letting you start the car and help heat it up in winter. Drivers will never get into a cold car again, just use the Remote Start and warm it up before you take off.
A Smart Key is the electronic portion of your key fob that is used to remotely access a car. The buttons for your Keyless Entry, Remote Start, and other functions are usually found on the Smart Key itself, if not on the attached key fob. A Smart Key then transmits radio signals to the car to open the hatch, lock the doors, and so on. Some cars won’t start without the Smart Key, as they are part of the anti-theft system.
