In this fight of mid-size, 3 row SUVs, it is the new guy (Atlas) versus old dependable (Pilot). The Pilot has been around since ’02 and is Honda’s largest SUV. The new Volkswagen Atlas, like it’s rival, it’s the largest SUV supplied by it’s brand. The Atlas plugs the big Sport Utility Vehicle hole left when Volkswagen discontinued the Toureg back in ’17. The brand-new, updated design and outstanding technology offerings should help the Atlas go up the ranks in the SUV market.
The ’19 Volkswagen Atlas and the Pilot are extremely similar when it concerns engine performance. The Atlas offers a 3.6L V6 engine creating 276 horse power, while the Pilot has a 3.5L V6 with 280 horsepower. The distinction is that the Pilot just supplies the V6 while the 2019 Volkswagen Atlas has a 2.0L Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that can generate as much as 235 horsepower while getting more MPGs than the V6. The Atlas comes standard with an 8-speed auto with Tiptronic and Sport setting. The Pilot has a 6-speed auto as the base equipment while a 9-speed auto with Shift-By-Wire is available.
Both Sport Utility Vehicles are showing off brand-new appearances with the brand-new Honda Pilot receiving upgraded bumpers, headlamps and taillights, while the ’19 Volkswagen Atlas is a completely brand-new vehicle. Both SUVs include 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, LED Daytime Running Lights, and remote entry on the base model. The Atlas adds Rain-sensing Windshield Wipers and Heated Side Mirrors as part of the base model. Inside both automobiles, you will certainly find a LOT of room for you and your stuff. However, the Atlas has better cargo volume and more guest space too. Both SUVs have optional 20-inch wheels and Sunroof options with the Atlas offering a Panoramic sunroof vs a basic sunroof like the Pilot.
Modern technology has become synonymous with safety functions and both SUVs are loaded with typical safety and security tech. Every ’19 Volkswagen Atlas comes equipped with Blind Spot Monitor & Front Assist and can be bought with Adaptive Cruise, Park Distance Control, Navigation and an Overhead View Camera. The Pilot comes with similar features however there is one thing it can not compete with, the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit. This innovative technology takes the place of a traditional dashboard with an adjustable, high-resolution electronic display screen. Comparable systems can commonly be found in different supercars however Volkswagen is making it available in several automobiles. Driver Personalization and Wide Map NAV View are the two prominent attributes of this incredible tech.
While the ’19 Pilot is good SUV, the brand-new Volkswagen Atlas beats it out with it’s larger interior room, safety features, and the irresistible Digital Cockpit. The brand-new Atlas bests the Pilot.
